an investigation on functionality of lotka’s law in the field of library and information science in iranian journals (1381-1392)

the purpose of this study was to test lotka’s law of scientific publication productivity in the field of library and information science (lis). the needed data is collected from the iranian journals (1381-1392) and were sorted in microsoft excel 2010. totally, 1994 articles published by 1470 authors. the authors frequencies were calculated based on the number of articles and regression were calculated using microsoft excel 2010.lotka’s law was tested by using the formula: x n y=c , the values of the exponent n and the constant c were computed. the values of n were calculated to be 2,12. finding shows %63,26 authors published one work only. the results did not confirm lotka's law in library and information science. it is concluded that the value of n is found to be higher in lis compared to exact sciences because the number of authors contributing two or more articles are less in this field.
